Crushing a walnut

Why can't we crush a walnut with one hand, but can crush two walnuts if we hold them both in one hand and squeeze?

Answer: Two walnuts means the area where a force is applied decreases (less amount of surface is touching the shell), so for any constant force the pressure applied is greater when two walnuts are held together.
